Just a few additional dates and information to keep
you up to date. Football
One session of football had to be cancelled this half term due to ill
health. The sports coach has said that he will run the replacement
session this coming Monday 12th May, so if your child usually plays
football please ensure that they have their kit with them.
Ground Force Day
Last year, you may remember, we had a ‘Ground Force Day’. All the
children are asked to bring 1 or 2 bedding plants into school on or
before Monday 19th May. We then take small groups of children out to
plant up hanging baskets, pots and borders around the grounds. The
children really loved doing this last year and it made the school
environment look lovely. If anyone would like to donate potting compost
or their time to this activity please let me know.
Walk to School Week 19th – 23rd
May
Because of the location of our school we don’t promote Walk to School
Week in the same way as other schools do. However, I have sent home the
fliers for your information, and would encourage you to discuss the
advantages, when they are practical and safe, with your children. Last
year we did a special playground circuit with the children, which they
enjoyed. I hope to mark the occasion in the same way this year.
SAT’s and QCA Tests
Over the next two weeks the children in years 2, 3 and 4 will be sitting
their SAT’s tests (Standard Assessment Tests) and the non statutory QCA
tests. So please ensure they come to school well rested, with full water
bottles and eager to perform to the best of their ability.
School Photographs
The whole school and whole class photographs will be taken on 5th June.
School Uniform
Please donate any out grown uniform which is still in good condition to
the school, I have had a particular request for summer dresses.
Thank you:
On behalf of Dr Barnardo’s, a very big thanks for raising an amazing
£375.00 for the children’s charity by supporting your children in
competing in the Bean Stalk Challenge. As you may know it is part of the
PSHE curriculum that the children are encouraged to become aware of
global and national issues. They are also taught to respect identity and
diversity in the world and follow the school ethos that we are all
special people and therefore EVERY CHILD, truly does MATTER.
I’m sure you would agree that there is no better way
to draw these issues to their attention than by inviting representatives
from different children’s Charities to come into school from time to
time to talk about the history of the work they do, and the sort of
people who they are able to help and support in 2008. In terms of the
children’s economic well being they are developing an understanding that
small contributions, when added together, can make an enormous
difference to other peoples lives and that’s real team work. Well done!
Maypole Dancing
We have also been asked to dance again and this year I have decided to
teach the children several Maypole dances. However, I do need to know
which children are going to be able to attend the fete in order to plan
the dances and sort out partners etc.
All the children in class 2 and 3 have had a taster
session of Maypole dancing and I am now planning to run a club for those
who can definitely dance on the day of the fete so that I can plan the
programme. It would be really fantastic to be able to have boy/girl
pairs so please encourage your children to sign up for the dance club,
the more the merrier. The fete is on Saturday 28th June. The dancing
will take place at 2pm and will last for 35mins. Please fill in attached
form and return to school on Monday.
As usual the children will be entering the
competition at the Church fete. Don’t worry, all entries will be
completed in school, but please do come and look at what the children
have made. Finally:
For any of you that are out-and-about around the country during the half
term and summer holidays, I saw this article ‘20 Cool Things To Do With
The Kids’. You may find it useful!
There are lots of new pictures on our web-site and
some links for educational and fun activities for the children.
