Class 3 Newsletter
January 2009
Dear Parents
Welcome back! I hope you all had an
enjoyable Christmas and New Year. I also hope that your child is ready
to continue with the challenge of life in Class 3.
During this term we will be studying
the following topics:
| Literacy |
Whole
class sessions covering a range of text types. We will be
looking at the use of paragraphs in our writing, writing for
different audiences. Exploring spelling patterns, word endings
and forming plurals. We will be working to develop
comprehension skills and an increased understanding of the text
we read.
We will focus on the quality of independent writing. |
| Numeracy |
Improve rapid
recall of the multiplication tables and derive their
corresponding division facts. We are going to be investigating
methods, choices and solutions to problems and puzzles. We will
also be working on fractions, shape, time, money, measures.
Following the revised strategy. |
| Science |
Following
on from last terms work on properties of Materials. We will be
studying how materials change and if those changes are
reversible.
We will be using cookery to explore some of these areas of
study. |
| ICT |
Unit 4c
branching data bases.
To enhance the children’s understanding of research and
referencing skills. |
| DT |
Money
Containers. Exploring fitness for purpose, design, make and
evaluate work . |
| Art |
Pattern in art
and linked to our history project of the Romans in Britain. A
research project to explore some artists who were famous for
their distinct pattern. |
| Geography |
Settlements,
characteristics of settlements exploring push and pull factors
Using maps to find evidence of the settlements. |

| PE |
Monday,
Wednesday and Friday. Gymnastics – indoors
Netball – Outdoors whenever possible.
Trainers or plimsolls will be needed this term and please ensure
your child has jogging bottoms and a warm top for colder days.
For the second half term we will be swimming again on a Friday
afternoon. Please remove any earrings on these days. Outdoor
and adventurous activities at Caythorpe Manor.
Please ensure your
child’s PE kit is in school every Monday and remains there all
week. |

Jewish family
life. We will be looking at a range of different aspect relating
to Judaism. |
| Music |
Songs and music
composition. |
| PHSCE |
Exploring the
theme, ‘Getting on and falling out’ ‘ the language of success
|
Class 3 homework: regular
reading, weekly spellings. Learning Logs, these will be given out on a
Friday and will be expected back in school by Thursday of the following
week.
Please help your child remember to
undertake the homework and return it on time.
Your child’s PE kit should consist
of: trainers/plimsolls, white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms.
