Class 3 Newsletter
September 2008
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you all had an
enjoyable summer break and that your child is ready for the challenges
of year 3 and 4. The new class members will be expected to take on more
responsibility throughout the school and the new year 4’s will be
preparing for the transition to middle school.
In Key Stage 2, we cover a wide range
of topics to a much greater depth and the children are required to
undertake research of specific topics. During this term we will be
studying the following:
| Literacy |
Whole class
sessions covering analysis of text and breaking down of
different components. Sounds-Write groups. A focus on quality
of independent writing and an increased understanding of text
read. |
| Numeracy |
Counting, place
value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape,
time, money, measures. |
| Science |
Light & Sound
and the Earth & Beyond. We will be looking at how sound is
produced and how it travels. We will also be investigating
different light sources and then we will investigate how the
movement of the earth affects them. |
| ICT |
Unit 4a
‘Writing for Different Audiences’ and Unit 3a ‘Text and
Graphics. |
DT
(second
half term) |
Money
containers. The children will be looking at a range of
different money containers and how they are fastened / what
makes them fit for purpose. They will then design and then make
their own money container using a range of different tools and
techniques. Finally they will evaluate their work. |
Art
(first half term) |
Journeys. The
children will be producing work which will be an
interpretation of their own journey of imagination, they will
use a range of different media for this project. |
Geography
(first half term) |
Local Study.
We will be looking at the village of Ridgmont and comparing it
to Milton Keynes. |
History
(second
half term)
|
Children in the
Second World War. We will be looking at how the war started and
the affect it had on children, this will include rationing,
evacuation, the Blitz and family life. I would appreciate any
wartime artefacts that could help the children’s learning. |
| PE |
Monday &
Thursday. We will be exploring invasion games and gymnastics
during the first half term. For the second half term we will be
swimming. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school every
Monday and remains there all week. Trainers/plimsolls and
suitable outdoor clothing will be needed this term. Please
remove any earrings on these days. |
| RE |
We are going to
be looking at the life of Jesus and some of the stories he told
during his life and how those stories impact on life today. |
| Music |
Songs and music
composition. |
| PHSCE |
New beginnings
taught through circle time, games and stories. |
Class 3 homework: regular
reading, weekly spellings and Learning Logs. These will be given out on
a Friday and will be expected back in school by Wednesday or Thursday of
the following week. Please help your child remember to undertake the
homework and return it on time.
Your child’s PE kit should consist
of: trainers/plimsolls, white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms
for winter months.
Please feel free to raise any issues
or concerns you may have as soon as possible. I will be on the
playground every morning from 8.50am, or you can arrange to meet with me
after school if required.
