Class 3 Newsletter
January 2008
Dear Parents
Welcome back! I hope you all had an enjoyable
Christmas and New Year. I also hope that your child is ready to continue
with the challenge of life in Class 3.
During this term we will be studying the following
topics:
| Literacy |
Whole class sessions covering
analysis of text and breaking down of different components.
Sounds-Write groups. A focus on quality of independent writing
and an increased understanding of text read. |
| Numeracy |
Counting, place value,
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape, time,
money, measures. |
| Science |
Properties of Materials. In
studying the properties of materials, we will be looking at a
range of different materials and their uses. The children will
be looking at a range of different rocks and soils and how they
are made up. Then we will look at liquids, solids and gases. |
| ICT |
Unit 3c data handling and
Unit 3a text and graphics. They will be learning how to use a
simple database using Microsoft Excel and also how to insert
text and pictures into a word document. |
| DT |
Packaging. We will be using
our knowledge of different types of packaging to design our own
for a ‘new product’. |
| Art |
Viewpoints – the children
will be exploring different ways to convey the atmosphere and
story of a dream, drawing inspiration from other well-known
artists, e.g. Marc Chagall, Miro, Blake and Magritte. |
| Geography(second
half term) |
Weather around the World. We
will begin to look at climates around the world and what
influences these different climates. We will also be carrying
out research on particular countries in order to prepare for a
‘pretend’ visit. |
History
(first half term) |
Clothes & Costumes through
the Ages. We will be looking at what we wear today and compare
it with what people wore long ago. We will investigate how
clothing has developed with regard to manufacture and
availability of materials. |
| PE |
Monday and Friday. We will be
doing outdoor activities (weather permitting), gymnastics and
dance. For the second half term we will be swimming again on a
Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school
every Monday and remains there all week. Trainers or plimsolls
will be needed this term and as the weather becomes colder
please ensure your child has jogging bottoms and a warm top.
Please remove any earrings on these days. |
| RE |
Religious Symbols. We will be
looking at a range of different religions and finding out about
their special signs and symbols and why these are important to
each different religion. |
| Music |
Songs and music composition. |
| PHSCE |
Exploring the theme, ‘Good to
be me’ taught through circle time, games and stories. |
Class 3 homework: regular reading, weekly
spellings, numeracy and literacy tasks. These will be given out on a
Friday and will be expected back in school by Thursday of the following
week.
Please help your child remember to undertake the
homework and return it on time.
Your child’s PE kit should consist of:
trainers/plimsolls, white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms for
winter months.
