January 2008

Dear Parents

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas holiday and has recovered from New Year celebrations.

Our topic for this term is Changes.

Literacy Whole class Big Book sessions. Sounds-Write groups. Traditional stories and poems and stories from other cultures; story characters, story settings and descriptions.
Numeracy Counting, writing numbers, ordering, place value, addition, subtraction, shape, time money, measures.
Science Changing Materials. Investigating a range of materials in and out of the classroom to discover how they can be changed and which changes are permanent.
DT Designing and making vehicles (please bring in wheeled toy to investigate on Wed 9th January).
Geography (first half term) Weather, different weather and climate, keeping daily weather record.
History (second half term) Changes in transport – investigating different forms of transport and making time lines.
RE Special Places. Looking at different places of worship, and identifying key similarities and differences.
ICT Unit 1e Data handling, representing information graphically Unit 2e Questions and answers.
Art Using papier mache to make bottle creatures, representing changing seasons through collage.
PE Mondays and Thursdays Apparatus and Dance. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school every Monday to remain all week. Trainers or plimsolls will not be needed this term. Please remove any earrings on these days.
PHSCE Its good to be me - taught through circle time, games and stories.
Music Music Express units Feeling the Pulse and Finding the Pitch.
French Beginning conversations – simple vocabulary.

Class 2 Homework: regular reading, weekly spellings, short numeracy task.

As always please don’t hesitate to raise any issues or concerns as soon as possible. I will be on the playground every morning from 8.50am, or can arrange a meeting after school.
